Marald Van Haasteren is a fine artist based in Leiden, Netherlands. His approach is bold yet masterfully delicate, often times exploring ideas of elegance and beauty in nature. Marald has created work for a number of aggressive bands including Ghost, Bolt Thrower, High on Fire, Deafheaven, Kylesa, Wolfbrigade, and more. Recently he has worked on incredible visual collaborations with John Dyer Baizley for the Baroness albums "Purple" and "Gold and Grey".

"By no means is this piece condemning, or glorifying suicide. I used the imagery of a weaverbird, making a noose as the foundation for a nest, to symbolize the sacrifices we make to built a family but also as an inescapable judgement: some of our foundations are wrong from the start. It’s hard to untangle a wrong assumption or judgement, especially when it’s been at the core of our existence, I mean this at every level: individual but also society as a whole. For me this piece is a reminder to accept my own shortcomings & forgive myself, rather than judge myself by unobtainable high standards: e.g. have some self compassion & the faint hope, that we can change our ways."
